Crap, it's not out on Australian iTunes, but it is on the US store (even though it's not the 16th there like it is here?!).

Annoying, I'm more excited to listen to this than any capsule release since PLAYER.

BTW it's only US$4.99 on iTunes. Everyone should pick that up.

Its really cheap! I ordered it because of the label and font change, its nice to have it in the collection.

Speaking of Toshi, what picture is your icon from? :o I've never seen it before.

I can't even remember. I'm so sorry for my forgetfulness :( If I come across the photo again, I will get back to you and link you to it.

Yeah. I seriously wonder how she will perform those songs live. :(

Pleasantly surprised. I dig the concept though I agree we could use more Toshiko but I think its a huge upgrade from the crap we've gotten from STEREO WORXXX. I listened to the rips as I was waiting for my next class and not even the professor talking about make me take my headphones out!

Favorite songs in descending order:
CONTROL
SHIFT
HOME
12345678
DELETE
RETURN
SPACE
ESC

I was surprised, but kinda disappointed too... only CONTROL and SHIFT made it... the rest went straight to the bin. DELETE could've been good if it didn't go on for an eternity.

Shift and Control are some of the best songs out of capsule since Player imo. Shift especially.

That one god damn noise on 123456789 annoys me to the point of deleting the song, which is too bad cause it's neat besides that.

Home is actually quite cool. Reminds me of Hello a little bit.

Space and Delete are both interesting as well, but go on for too long imo.

And ESC is a piece of trash.

Overall happy with the album, even if it's a little short.

Finally got to listen to most of the album (still haven't heard 12345678 or DELETE in full) and, while I like the ending result, I'm really confused by it. I get now why he changed CAPSULE's image for this album as it really breaks away from what they've done in the past, but at the same time I feel like he could've gone farther and just dropped capsule's name altogether. It's obvious that this was more of an experimental or concept album and I think it would have been suited better as a mini-album under a completely different name rather than releasing it as capsule's 14th LP.

The album's also pretty weak in terms of its more experimental tracks, which again makes me wonder why it just wasn't released as something else. It's a little embarrassing when there are people out there without the expertise and income that Nakata has who are far better at the type of sound he was trying to go for. The fact that the more pop-oriented tracks, CONTROL and SHIFT, stand out as the two better tracks on the album hit this fact home too.

Overall it's really good. SPACE is probably the only song I'll be skipping. Only main complaint is that it sounds like he just wanted to try something new... which is cool, but upload that to your bandcamp instead of releasing an entire album around it.

The only song here that I can say in all honesty that I like is SHIFT, even though it sounds really vocaloid.

HOME is okay and is ESC supposed to be an interlude?

I can't honestly claim to be disappointed since I figured I wouldn't really like this record as I was listening to the previews. I like Rainbow more than every song here, except for maybe SHIFT and it didn't even make the cut. This album also has to set some sort of record for using Toshiko's vocals the very least.

I'm happy the band is changing and doing what they want, but I can say without a doubt that I will not be spinning this record. I even like the new Perfume record more than this.

ohaimanabu: faceohaimanabu on October 16th, 2013 09:54 pm (UTC)
I think it does. Cutie Cinema had 2 songs that had tons of Tosh, even if the rest was features.

This is seriously 3 tracks of beep boops and no semblance of actual lines being performed.

I liked it, Didn't LOVED it.
My favs:
CONTROL
SHIFT
12345678
RETURN

my hated: ESC, even when it DID made me feel this need to run.. lol.

I think it's a nice conceptual album. Then again, I'll always miss the old days
when Toshiko was actually part of the band..

After listening to the whole album 3 times i can honestly say that this is far from being a masterpiece.. It's better than "Player" without a doubt but i don't know why most ppl hate STEREO WORKXXX so much..

I mean, it had "Never let me go", "Step on the floor" ,"Motor force", "Transparent"... Not saying that STEREO WORXXX is a masterpiece but i like the four songs that i listed better than CAPS LOCK in it's entirety lol...

Toshiko Koshijima was all over STEREO WORXXX and in CAPS LOCK he seem's to be pushing her aside and not giving her much room to work:(
pink_vitamin: me myself ipink_vitamin on October 17th, 2013 02:08 am (UTC)
I LOVE STEREO WORKXXX, so I'm with you. Tapping Beats and Transparent give me live.

I really like CONTROL.

I love the music and melody for SHIFT, but I wish toshikoloid was toned down a bit because it's really distracting to the song unlike in CONTROL where it's more blended in. It would've been great if Toshiko really sings in this song and not have her voice chopped up so much but I don't think real singing is part of this album.

I can't believe there's an extended mix for DELETE and ESC. DELETE is the longest song in the album and he's extending it 2:30 minutes longer. As for ESC..why does he feel the need to extend the awkward "silence" even further. I rather have extended mix of any other songs in the album instead of those two.

Sometimes I wonder if Dream Land and Furikaeru to Iruyo were supposed to be capsule songs and Nakata gave it to Perfume because it doesn't fit this album. I can imagine Toshiko's voice in those songs and Dream Land has the escapism quality like in most capsule songs.

Also, I think if you combine some of the new songs in LEVEL3 (Clockwork, Dream Land, Furikaeru to Iruyo) [main songs] and some songs in CAPSLOCK (HOME, RETURN, 12345678, DELETE, CONTROL) [bgms] in an album, you can get a soundtrack for a movie/game called "Time Keyboard" or something like that. It's the clickety tick sounds/instruments.

Interesting Yasutaka Nakata Album,
Terrible capsule album.

idk, but "CAPSULE" needs to disband and "capsule" needs to reform because this stuff isn't sticking.

I'm also terribly irritated at people trying to label this as Shibuya Kei, when there are zero cultural samples or Brit influences in it...So whatever, gonna just let people believe what they want.

Sigh, poor Tosh.

Thanks for posting.... but worst album ever. capsule come back! T___T
It's ok for a movie soundtrack or experimental album, but good YSTK songs are now in Perfume.
(Anonymous) on October 16th, 2013 02:45 pm (UTC)
if you walk in the street listening CAPS LOCK, you'll like it ! it's like runway songs.
The album is not that pop, but some sounds are lovely......making happy songs for CAPSULE mmm I don't know, Nakata is not into that life anymore I guess
Al: nakatalelouchikaru on October 16th, 2013 04:37 pm (UTC)
Am i the only person here who likes ESC the most? LOL

Aside from ESC, the songs I like the most from the album are SHIFT and 12345678. I still don't get Nakata why he needs to carry on KPP's sound into this album (the xylophone sounds). CONTROL reminds me of MEG at some point though...

I am not surprised if this album just debuts at #300 in the Oricon Albums Chart or will go the same fate as High Collar Girl which didn't chart at all. I mean, avant-garde albums aren't a cup of tea of 99.6% of the world's music lover population. But if you talk about avant-garde albums regardless of which artist releases this, CAPS LOCK is much better than the works of the the shit Zapple label.

i don't think it's going to flop in Japan, capsule have reached a high enough point to sell by their name alone, but i'd like to get a number on the return receipts...LOL

The whole listen was a bit underwhelming. I was expecting to hear Toshiko sing, but all I heard were "oohs" and "ahs."
Any real vocals she had were so distorted by vocaloid it kinda didn't matter if it was her voice (why not just use another voice?).
The album really does her injustice.

Putting my vocal preferences aside, musically I think it's okay. I wasn't particularly wowed but there are some good moments like "Shift", "Control", and "Space"(I just wish it wasn't so long). I do like the concept though. Their last style throughout the last 3 albums was getting a little old for me.
Although if the album was based around the sound in "RAINBOW" from Asobitunes, I think I would have joy-exploded.

I'd give it like a 7/10.
It maintains without doing anything too special.

(in the spirit of the album I was thinking of writing this in all CAPS LOCK lol)

Umm the more i listen to it, the more i like "RETURN". It's a pretty good track after listening a few times.
CONTROL, SPACE,DEL are still my favs. I also enjoy SHIFT but i have mixed feelings about it.

Well, i've listened the whole album and is a very good album of electronic music. I think it should be released as Yasutaka Nakata and not Capsule as Toshiko Koshijima is not featured very much, fans of capsule will not appreciate it as i said it's a Yasutaka Nakata's album and not Capsule's album. Overall, Yasutaka Nakata is a genius and this work confirms it if you are looking for good electronic music then this is ok, if you are waiting for the another good capsule's work then you'll be a little disappointed with this work.

An incredible, modern and evolved record.

I think his meeting with Sakamoto Ryuichi a few months back has had an effect on him.
I also think he has been listening to Serph a bit.

The most adult Capsule release - the group are all the better for it rather than rehashing their style from 2007.

I feel that he's really going for a full-on Daikanyama boutique shop soundtrack here!

Doesn't RETURN sound like a song from Totoro or something ?
The album was pretty much "meh." to me. Not exciting at all even though the concept looked really cool yet simple. It really sounded like the soundtrack of some cheap video game.
Toshiko was like a phantom in this.
